Richard Petty Driving Experience Announces "Can't Drive a Manual? No Problem!"

8/29/2011

Customers with little or no experience driving a stick shift now have the opportunity to drive a NASCAR stock car with Richard Petty Driving Experience, worry free!

Beginning September 1st customers at every Richard Petty Driving Experience location nationwide will no longer be required to shift a manual transmission. The “Can’t Drive a Manual? No Problem!” program will introduce a new “push-to-start” procedure allowing more customers to fulfill their racing fantasies.

All NASCAR stock cars in the Richard Petty Driving Experience fleet will remain equipped with a manual transmission, but the track crew will use a “push-to-start” procedure to get non-shifting drivers started, with no gear-shifting required. Every driver’s full attention can now be directed to following their driving instructor, keeping the proper racing lines on the track, and gradually increasing speeds to their full driving potential.

“We’re excited to announce that anyone with a valid driver’s license, shifters and non-shifters, now have the opportunity to participate in any of our driving programs,” said Rick Fedrizzi, President and COO of Richard Petty Driving Experience. “Fewer people than ever are learning how to operate a manual transmission because manufacturers just aren’t producing as many cars with them. This has been a challenge in the past, but will no longer be an issue.”

The new “push-to-start” procedure gives everyone the opportunity to experience the thrill of a lifetime. Whether driving a Corvette, mini-van, hybrid or dump truck is in your daily routine, you can now add “race car” to your driving resume.
