Richard Petty Driving Experience and Clemson University launched its national safe driving partnership in March 2007 to help prevent or reduce highway crashes by high-risk adolescent and young adult participants by improving driver skills, attitudes, knowledge and behavior. Their goal is to bring together nationally and internationally recognized researchers, educators, government and corporate partners to improve the safety of the automotive transportation environment.

In the partnership CU-ASRI provides expertise in interdisciplinary research and education in the safety of the human-vehicle-road interface including curriculum development, course delivery, and assessment. Petty Safe Driving leverages its personnel, logistics, instructional base, vehicles and national footprint. The combination of Petty Safe Driving and CU-ASRI as highly skilled partners yields a unique safe driving program based on best practices for both classroom and on-track laboratory experiences.

A powerful idea

To provide interdisciplinary safety research focusing on the transportation environment through analysis of the human-vehicle-road system and to develop evidence-based countermeasures and products
