NASCAR Racing Experience to offer ultimate fan racing experience on Monday following select NASCAR Cup Series weekends

With 33 Years In The Racing School Business, Bob Lutz Looks To The Future.

Robert Lutz has almost singlehandedly revolutionized the racing school industry. Back in the 1990s, he envisioned a niche for NASCAR and Indy car fans who want to experience the thrill of speed, but don’t necessarily want to learn how to race cars as, say, a Skip Barber teaches.

So Lutz, 53, founded what was once called the Richard Petty Driving Experience, now, after many name changes, the NASCAR Racing Experience. The entity has put nearly two million regular folks, both in the U.S. and internationally, through its various drive/ride programs, making Lutz wealthy but also giving a boatload of bucket-list thrills.

There’s a lot of responsibility that goes along with such success, though. Imagine a newbie with no previous racing experience driving 150 mph on a track in a stock or Indy car. If something major breaks on the thing, the consequences could be serious. That said, NRE cars are built and maintained way better than passenger cars - like real race-cars, in fact - and are designed to handle high-speed wrecks. An accident at 170 mph in an NRE car is likely to do a lot less damage to its occupants than a crash in an SUV at 80 mph on the interstate.

DRIVING 101 ANNOUNCES 2022 NASCAR RACING EXPERIENCE COMING TO NEWLY RENOVATED ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY

Race Fans Have an Opportunity to Experience the New Track from the Driver’s Seat on January 15th

All eyes are turned toward Atlanta Motor Speedway as NASCAR drivers test the surface of the newly reconfigured and paved racetrack. Beds for Kids and Speedway Children’s Charities gets $10,000 donation from racing executive, Bob Lutz.

CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) - Bob Lutz, CEO of Driving 101, which operates NASCAR Racing Experience, Richard Petty Driving Experience and Mario Andretti Racing Experience, presented a donation of $10,000 this week to Speedway Children’s Charities – Charlotte Chapter to support Charlotte-based Beds for Kids.

“We’ve been honored to support Speedway Children’s Charities for many years,” said Lutz. “Since the annual Speedway Children’s Charities gala was cancelled this year, we wanted to make sure we were continuing to help them fulfill their mission in the community with a donation to an important community organization.”

War Hero Joe Kittinger’s Daytona Joy Ride: ‘A Redneck’s Dream’

Joe Kittinger is not a household name. But if you mention him to aviation- and astronaut-types, they know who he is. In 1960, as research for NASA’s then-fledgling space program, he rode a helium balloon to 102,800 feet above the Earth, then jumped out, eclipsing 600 mph during his free-fall. His parachute opened at 14,000 feet, and he gently glided to the surface of the New Mexico desert.

Kittinger had just been the highest man in the world, at the edge of space, and, when he returned to Earth, he was almost as high. A telegram awaited him from seven Mercury astronauts, including the late John Glenn, congratulating him for his daring experiment. Kittinger had proved that test pilots and astronauts could eject at extreme altitudes, and survive.

Imagine my nervousness just before I was about to take him for a 170-mph thrill ride around the Daytona International Speedway, courtesy of the NASCAR Racing Experience.

The man next to me strapped snugly into the passenger seat is Antron Brown, a famous drag-racer from Don Schumacher Racing. Brown regularly takes his nitro-burning Matco Tools top-fuel dragster from a dead start to 330 mph in less than four seconds as part of his job competing on the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) circuit. Think about that for a minute. How many of us will ever get to go 330 mph in a car – let alone, do it in less than four seconds?

The vehicle we’re in today isn’t quite as quick as Brown’s 12,000-horsepower dragster. It’s a stock car, courtesy of the NASCAR Racing Experience (NRE), a school of sorts that puts race fans behind the wheels of 600-plus-horsepower cars, and/or gives them high-speed ride-alongs, on well-known tracks across the U.S., including Charlotte Motor Speedway (North Carolina), Talladega Superspeedway (Alabama), Texas Motor Speedway, AutoClub Speedway (California), Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Nevada) and Michigan International Speedway.

I'm gunning the throttle of a 600-plus-horsepower stock car in pit lane at the Daytona International Speedway. Next to me in the passenger seat is Michael Waltrip, the famous NASCAR racer-turned-broadcaster. Needless to say, I'm a little nervous. While I have given hundreds of high-speed ride-alongs to friends and customers at the Nascar Racing Experience (NRE), I'd never had a star driver like Waltrip with me. In fact, up until two years ago, I had never given a race-car ride to anyone.

It's funny how things evolve if you take small steps and let destiny run its course. Twenty years ago, I had my first experience as a newbie student with NRE, then known as Driving 101. Forbes.com and NASCAR Racing Experience in Las Vegas

The main reason I was in Vegas was to drive with the NASCAR Racing Experience and The Mario Andretti Racing Experience at the speedway there. The track is a 1.5-mile-long, D-shaped oval which NASCAR races on annually, and which briefly gained international prominence in 2011 when British IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon was killed in a spectacular 15-car pileup in turn two.

The schools' host, Todd Rasmussen, had scheduled me for multiple sessions in both the stock car and the Indy car. Afterward, I would also give a few rides in the two-seaters to customers who wanted a high-speed thrill. Truth be told, I had driven with the schools for 20 years at various tracks including Texas, Daytona, Charlotte and Fontana, so I had quite a bit of oval experience. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 29, 2019) – NASCAR Racing Experience has entered into a multi-year partnership to serve as the title sponsor for the NASCAR Xfinity Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway, part of DAYTONA Speedweeks Presented By AdventHealth. The 120-lap, 300-mile race will be known as the NASCAR Racing Experience 300.

From the outside, hockey and NASCAR appear to be completely different-because they are. But when Golden Knights defenseman Deryk Engelland and NASCAR champion Kurt Busch traded places for a day, they saw similarities in the two completely separate sports.

Busch, Engelland, and AT&T SportsNet Analyst Shane Hnidy took to the ice at City National Arena Monday morning to give Busch a crash-course on being a hockey player. Just before they hit the ice, Busch said he felt confident despite having skated only four or five times prior, though he worried he wouldn’t look as graceful as his new linemates.
